Methods of participation

Individuals may register for one of the consultation sessions to be held throughout Québec. Three methods of participation are being offered to the public.

Institutions, groups and individuals may first write a brief to set out their viewpoints on the consultation topic. The brief may, if the authors so desire, be presented during a consultation meeting.

Participants may also testify before the Commission. During a public hearing, they may speak briefly about relevant experience related to the topic at hand or express an opinion on a specific point.

The third method of participation is the regional citizens’ forum, to be held in each of the cities included in the consultative tour. The forums will be less formal in nature and offer individuals an opportunity to express themselves and react to the themes examined in the consultation document or comment on viewpoints expressed before the Commission.

A number of province-wide citizens’ forums will also be organized. The Consultation Commission on Accommodation Practices Related to Cultural Differences (CCAPRCD), in collaboration with the Institut du Nouveau Monde (INM), will organize this fall and winter a series of public forums at which Quebecers of all origins and from all regions will be asked to express themselves on questions related to the management of cultural diversity in Québec society. The forums will focus, in particular, on what
sets Quebecers apart but, above all, on what draws us together and unites us.

At the conclusion of the consultative tour, the Commission intends to hold a province-wide hearing. Further information on the hearing will be released shortly.
